Battle Of The Bands, Modern Punk Era,Sub Catagory: Paddybeat

Gorky Park pulled out a narrow victory in the last match up. Personally,I find that the Scorpions are more talented and musically complex than the basically primal Gorky Park. But 'primal' speaks to me, and is why I prefer them, and I still play my now-dated GP CD's on a regular basis.

Way back when this catholic boy was confirmed, Patrick of Ireland was chosen as a personal patron. This month, those of us who know better will be marking his feast day with prayer, contemplation, and just enough celebration to honor his life's work and service to the Lord.
With that in mind, this week's battle goes out to all you jig-hopping, green beer chuggin,freckled-babe lovin, Cromwell hatin, former subjects of Her Royal Majesty.

Flogging Molly

VS

Dropkick Murphys

Hate to break it to you, but Patrick was English. Which is fine, because there isn't much "Irish" about corned beef and green beer, either. Corned beef is at least an Engish thing.

bubba, not much is known about partick, and not much of what *is* known is unknown to me.
he is called 'patrick of ireland' because that is where he did the work he is celebrated for. and i'm writing for a general audience, so scholarly details are not important.
and he was the son of roman citizens, and spoke latin, making him, at least arguably, italian. :)

I'll have to skip this one since Flogging Molly is the only one I'm familiar with. I do like them though.

"and he was the son of roman citizens, and spoke latin, making him, at least arguably, italian"

Or French - he was born in Gaul if I remember correctly.

Flogging Molly all the way - and we find ourselves in the same ol' mess singing drunken lullabies!

This from a man whose heritage is Orange, not Green.

I like them both, but why stop there? How about Van Morrison, or Thin Lizzy, or U2, or the Pogues?

Flogging Molly. I like how they're less screamy (if that's a word).

mark: those are good acts, but paddybeat? i'm a fan of old U2.our local semi-underground station used to play them before they got national exposure. i dumped them when they climbed the joshua tree.

tracy: i do have ethnic lineage that i dont publically admit to.
(not green, also)

Good point, Gino. Okay, I'll pick one. The Dropkick Murphys, in a photo finish.

I still have to go with Flogging Molly. I like both bands. My fav FM song is "Save What's Left of the Flag."

My daughter Maria would like to vote for the Dropkick Murphys, too. Maria says she rated them. Flogging Molly 2 stars and the Dropkick Murphys 3 stars. The 3rd star for the Dropkick Murphys is because of the guitar, which she likes better. And she'd like to encourage everyone to visit her blog, which has a condiment contest:

She's probably the best 8 year old blogger in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities. Just ask her.
