Sadness Is The Only Legitimate Feeling

What is really troubling, concerning the very clear language of the 2nd Ammendment, is that the court ruling was a 5-4 thing.

Gun owners and freedom lovers, like myself, are dancing around, crowing about their victory today as if they've saved the republic.

That's Bullshit.

I see this for what it is: 5-4 is proof positive that the republic is on it's deathbed.

I hate to be the one to break it to you gino but the republic has been dead since Lincoln

The Republic has very much been dead like Mick states above.

If guns were outlawed, only outlaws will have them and I'll be one of them.

Then again, this nation wasn't founded by people who decided to just abide by the laws of a screwed up government.

Who was it who said something along the lines of the tree of liberty being watered with the blood of revolution or something to that effect?

Yeah, it's pretty sad when 5-4 decision that reaffirms a basic Constitutional right is reason for celebration. But it is! It's plenty easy to say that we're screwed, but what good does that do? We have to do the good that we can and make babies that love God and the Constitution more than they love a handout.

Ben's exactly right. Another Ben, Ben Franklin, was asked what kind of government this new nation has - he said, "A republic, if you can keep it." The Left keeps trying to take it away and it's incumbent on us to keep fighting, because the Left won't.

Gino, I don't know if the republic is on its deathbed, as you say, but you are certainly correct that its position is precarious when large numbers of judges think that the Constitution is a malleable thing, changeable according to the times.

You're getting close Gino. Just one more feeling left whose reality is to be refuted.

tully: the left knows what the right cannot comprehend.
debates are not to be won or lost, but instead their outcomes are imposed.

you can argue the 2A all you want. the language and intent is clear to any eight-grader who passes his govt class.
what matters, in the end, is who sets policy and law.
the left gets it. the right never will.

When can we start making liberals' abortions retroactive?

Gino: You speak as if the government has power. Not position or status (which are meaningless without power)- I mean power to determine happiness! By the gods, Gino, human kind's power over that is vested in the wise, as long as happiness is determined by ethical knowledge. The knowledge it takes to make you happy, I take it, is not knowledge about dodging G-Men when they try to make you miserable- its about conducting a certain harmony in your soul- like a fiddler on the roof who scratches out a beautiful, simple tune even as the Cossacks are shooting at him. If he's shot, it's not as if the tune will die! The tune lives on, and so does he!

The emotions, governments and opinions rumbling about your soul are not part of your soul, and they cannot affect the happiness within if you acknowledge that truth. Your soul has no Left or Right- those are directions in space and time and opinion of which your soul has no part: Bullshit, if you will. Leave bullshit to the madmen in Washington. If we want to get our countrymen off their national deathbed, we have to figure out reality with them. We have to distribute power equally- and if they think that a gun is necessary to have power, we just have a lot of work ahead of us, don't we?

I thought we were on our deathbed what was it 10 years ago when on a 5 to 4 vote the Boy Scouts organization we allowed to choose the kinds of people they wanted to lead their children. As long as we hang on with the majority we're alive. And guess what, even when we're not in the majority, they cannot take away our thoughts or our spirt.

Tully--people are not as far-sighted as you prefer to think. (See, it's that whole, "you prefer to think," part, that makes you weird ;). )

If I understood you ;), your basic idea I agree with; Ghandi: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

KR: I'm weird- on that we agree!

On the surface it may seem that by my necessity to get everyone on the same metaphysical page I am advocating just another prostheletizing ideology no different in methods from Jehovah's Witnesses, but the only difference I could resort to is that metaphysics deals with something other than opinions. If theories with objective reference don't exist, or are indistinguishable from opinions of subjective meaning, then I may as well be a Jehovah's Witness by trying to "convert" the world to Platonism (which suffix "ism" would be rightly placed).

My apologies for that almost completely unwarranted rant- it was more for my sake than to make any relevant point.

The 2nd amendment issue is my single greatest concern in this year's election.
