Random Thought...

I remain convinced that Woman exists for the sole purpose of separating Man from his money.

If that were true, and you discovered our secret, then broadcasting that knowledge in a forum such as this would certainly put you at risk. So... if a band of very serious looking women dressed all in black storm your house to shut down your blog, you'll know you are right.

Hmmmmm.

Wonder whose money I've been stealing?

I don't think Gino means "stealing" per se, or that the money is being spent on woman/en directly. Just that having a woman in your life tends to make the money leave more readily.

If not for my wife, I wouldn't have spent money on:

-two wedding bands and an engagement ring
-our house
-our dog (as much as I love him, I got him to make her happy)
-probably 75% of the nice clothes I own

Of course, I probably would be spending the surplus on trying to impress someone else...

brian nails it.

if The Blonde doesnt get it, my mom or my daughter will.

I think I mostly "get" it -- I'm just saying that implicit in what Gino's saying is that money is men's to start with. Women's contributions in a "traditional" relationship are undervalued. For instance, my dad could easily look at my mom and say "she's just taking all my money!" Except that he would not be half as successful as he is if not for the many day-to-day (and sometimes major) sacrifices she's made FOR HIM. They're hard to quantify because society doesn't acknowledge the very real value that stay at home spouses bring to a relationship (as someone who doesn't have a stay at home spouse, and who has friends who DO have stay at home spouses, I can guarantee you there's a lot of value I'm just plain not getting). This largely does a disservice to women, as women are the ones who tend to, essentially, volunteer these services only to be dismissed as Gino dismisses them here. Even though my mom didn't work most of the time when we were growing up, she most definitely served more of a purpose than separating Dad from his money.

Also, this seems to leave those of us of the female persuasion who make our own money as... um... not women? Or thieves, or something. That's all :)

actually, i'm making a statement about the weakness of man.

man pays for services, and also pays in advance in the hope of recieveing services. and continues to pay even after services are rendered.

Woman rules the world.

if these were very serious, but hot looking women, i'd likely open the door personally. no storming necessary.
maybe then i'd really having something exciting to blog about...

Ahhh, Gino, you're such a romantic. I coulda told you we were all hookers, if you'd just asked.

Here's what I don't get: if men have all this money to be paying for everything under the sun even when it's getting them (by your estimation) very little in return -- well, then it seems to me THEY'RE the ones with the power. I mean, they're the ones with all this disposable income to apparently just generously GIVE to us manipulative vixens who never deliver what we promise.

Do employees have more power than their employers?

Gino said...

i'm not making any judgement as to the value of the services, or the quantity. i did not do that.

what i AM saying is that man pays for services from woman.

as for manipulative vixens who dont deliver as promised: ever heard the expression, 'it's cheaper to keep her'.

who pays for your dates?

(and are you billing this time? ;))

I totally love my wallet... er... husband. :)

Vas: must you objectify in that way?
loki has value, feelings, and needs, like any human being.

Lawfairy - I don't think Gino's original statement specifically means that money is all in the hands of men to begin with... I interpreted it to mean that we are here to separate men from whatever money they happen to have at the time.
I completely disagree with the statement of course... ridding men of their money is not our sole purpose. Goal maybe, but not purpose. ;)

Gino, I haven't been on a date in a while. My last boyfriend-type-person was a struggling actor, so most of the time when we were going out, either I paid or we split the bill. He paid for dates maybe once or twice. If we had gotten more serious, in fact, I fully expect that I would have paid for more and more (us becoming more of a "couple" and less two people going out and getting to know each other, in which case I think it's totally legit for both to be expected to pay their way). And it was fine -- he made a lot less money than I did, it would have been silly to expect him to pay *just because* of his genitalia. Really one of the silliest reasons I can think of for someone to pay for something.

This time totally counts as business development ;)

Gino: GASP! What's wrong with objectifying my husband? He loves it. Besides, he objectifies me. Neither one of us objects being each other's object of affection.

Loki has great value in his being a workaholic, he feels like he enjoys spending his money on his wife, and he needs to make his wife happy. Just as I need to make him happy, enjoy being a workaholic who enjoys what he does for me, and helping him out in return.

I'll be his decorative accent Vassie who does the books and he'll be my wallet wood-chopping Loki. It's only fair.

When did you come to my house?

kinda amusing that a single sentence has garnered more of a response than a well wrote movie review.

Gino: You could be a soundbite writer for the networks!

There's a strong argument for gay marriage right there!

Gino said...

(as andy stays true to form...)

i can just see two gays fighting over the tab, and two lesbians doing the same for a different reason.

mick: strange, aint it? welcome to the blog world.

I thought that was the main reason for the existence of the democratic party.

Gino, I haven't been on a date in a while.

I would have never guessed that. With how much respect you have for men, I'm shocked they aren't beating down your door.

I think it is funny sometimes how we all try to deny the obvious, and that Vas is nearer to the healthy truth than anyone. I truly believe the wiring is different and just roll with it. My wife has a "shoe gene" and I have a "car gene." And rather than quibble about it we give each other that reality and just let it roll.

I have also been chasing behind her trail of economic mayhem and fixing things back up for almost 30 years now. If it wasn't for her I'd be a millionaire many times over. But I would then probably also be so completely lonely I would have killed myself twenty years ago.

I know relationships where the money situation is the opposite, gender-wise. But I feel happiest when the person I love "uses" me.

Anyway she'd like...

RW - it's the wife who's the responsible one in our relationship -- although I've never seen $200 bucks disappear faster when she goes to Target.

(Hmm... I do make "the money" in the relationship... And after supporting her through two graduate degrees no less!)
