For all the rivalry between the Packers and Bears, if I was to base who to root for on the fans, I'd root for the Pack. Packer fans and Bear fans at least understand the deal. I've never had more fun than the time I went to Lambeau. Really, it was competitive, but Wisconsin deer hunter types are good people.
I never met a Viking fan who wasn't an asshole, and that's exactly what the Packer fans will tell you. So no contest.
Either that or a plane crash in the middle of the field. Take your pick.
I grew up 30 miles from Green Bay, so of course I root for the Pack. Packers fans and Bears fans hate each other, but it's been my experience that there is an underlying respect there, even though we always love beating on each other.
Thing is, I live in Minnesota now and have been among Vikings fans for a long time. My sense is that there are two kinds of Vikings fans - the ones who are knowledgeable, passionate fans, and the front-runner types who actually get to go to the games because of their corporate contacts. That makes it harder to read Vikings fans. I think there's more insecurity among the fan base up here and that leads to some of the nastiness you hear.

I dunno. As a lifelong Bears fan myself, do I root against da Pack, or do I root against those guys who play in the Rollerdome?
Hard choice, but I think I'll be rooting against the ViQueens.
bubba, any 'lifelong bears fan' already knows the answer to that.
and you should be ashamed of yourself.
:^) I just think that playing in a real stadium overcomes the visceral hatred I should have of the Pack.
Except for two games per year.

Worst fans I never met were when I was in grad school in Boulder. Go Big Red!
Of course, I've never been to a game in New York or Oakland. I might change my opinion if I did...but I'd still root for the Huskers.
