While Kal and RW were glued to the Bears/Patriots contest, I was discovering...
Murphy's Rule Of Deer Hunting #197:
"In that rare instance when mindful scouting, and careful planning, actually does result in a 10 O'Clock shooting position, the targeted buck, upon perforation of his upper ventricle, will immediately run through two barbed wire fences, across a steeply banked creek, over more barbed wire, and collapse half-way up a heavily wooded slope, where the only path of retrieval is through a nearly knee-deep mud bog. All in about 6 seconds."
I had a great week.
Too bad it had to end.
But I did get an invite to a wild pig hunt in south Georgia sometime in Feburary.
I may need a bigger freezer.
Will keep you posted.

Welcome back. Glad to hear you had a great trip. I'd think about the pig hunt. In all the fantasy books I've read, whenever the king's party goes out on a pig hunt, someone is killed or severely injured; usually the king or the young prince. I don't want to be reading in FoxNews about killer Georgia pigs taking out some guy named Gino. (of course they just had swords and lances in the books; but still, those pigs are nasty)
never hunted pigs before david, but from what i hear, yes, they are mean and nasty beasts.
Welcome back! Wow, I knew they move fast but not that fast. I guess if I wuz running for my life I'd do the same & go thru barbed wire except much more slower.
mercy:
ever heard the expression 'runs like a deer'?
the explosive action is more reflex than actually running in fear. like i said, he had a big whole in his heart. it was as dead-on a shot as i have ever made.
if you miss the shot, they lower their head, keep low, tail between legs, and run the way they came.
generally, anyway.
Wild Pig hunt, eh?
There's a really nasty joke about nights out at Punters Pub in college, but I'm far too much a gentleman to make it...
reflex my ass! 7mm Mag at 50 yards...no slogging or tracking at all
let me guess...
you likely blasted out the shoulder.
am i right?
7mm?
my god,boy....
Nope after skinning I found that I blew a fist sized hole in him and that was the entrance wound. The bullet exploded, sheer hydrostatic shock killed him.
